Across Africa, access to education continues to shape opportunities for millions of young people. While governments, schools, and communities play a central role in this effort, private organisations are also becoming increasingly involved in programmes designed to support students and strengthen local communities.
The launch of the NFG Step Forward Foundation in 2026 reflects this growing focus on long-term social investment.
Although the foundation is newly established, the initiatives behind it are not. According to NFG Group, educational and community-focused programmes supported by the organisation have been active since at least 2017. These efforts have included support for students facing financial barriers, educational initiatives, nutritional assistance, and projects designed to help local communities address practical challenges.
By bringing these activities together under a dedicated foundation, NFG aims to create a structure capable of supporting future growth while maintaining a focus on education and community engagement.
For many young Africans, educational opportunities remain closely linked to future economic mobility. Access to learning resources, school attendance, and community support programmes can all play a role in helping students develop the skills needed to participate in rapidly changing economies.
This is one reason why education continues to occupy a central place within the foundation’s activities.
Recent projects illustrate how this approach is being applied in practice. In Kenya, NFG SA supported the Lenivan Foundation’s annual initiative that distributed more than 300 pairs of school shoes to children. The programme formed part of wider educational and community activities aimed at supporting young people and improving access to learning opportunities.
Rather than operating independently, the foundation intends to work alongside community organisations already active in the regions they serve. According to NFG, future growth will be supported through donations, strategic collaborations, and referrals from external partners, allowing the organisation to expand its network of community-based initiatives.
The foundation will be overseen by an independent Board of Trustees. Dr. Kathryn Devos and Cecilia Rague-Kaisha will serve as Ambassadors, while Shaunte Stapleton has been appointed Corporate Manager and Troylin Evelyn will serve as Secretary. Additional trustees are expected to join as the organisation develops its activities.
As African economies continue to invest in education, skills development, and youth empowerment, initiatives that support students and local communities are likely to remain an important part of the broader development landscape.
For NFG Step Forward Foundation, the next phase will focus on expanding partnerships, supporting educational opportunities, and building upon programmes that have already been active for several years across different communities.
